Position OverviewJoin the Building Maintenance and Operations team as an Electrician II
, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our campus electrical and mechanical systems.
- Install, maintain, and repair secondary electrical systems (550 V and below) and related equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot electrical components such as conduit, wiring, electrical panels, breakers, switch gear, magnetic starters, disconnects, and motors.
- Repair and maintain lighting systems, including fixtures, ballasts, switches, and receptacles.
- Diagnose, service, and repair equipment used in steam generation and distribution, requiring strong mechanical and pipe‑fitting skills.
- Maintain critical systems such as boilers, turbines, pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, expansion joints, strainers, pressure‑reducing stations, piping, insulation, air compressors, and water softeners.
- Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration and air‑conditioning equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
- Identify and correct faults in control systems and perform necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Repair, adjust, or replace temperature controls, humidity controllers, sensors, pneumatic control valves, and regulators.
- Lift, carry, and maneuver materials weighing 60–90 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Perform tasks requiring standing for extended periods, working in confined spaces, and utilizing various tools. Safely climb and work from different types of ladders to access elevated or below‑grade areas such as roofs and utility pits. May be exposed to insects or small animals.
- Communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
- Position designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions, even if the University operates on an alternate schedule.
- Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on organizational needs and evolving priorities.
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Preferred Qualifications- Depth of knowledge and skills for electrical installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of secondary electrical systems (550 V and below) and equipment.
- Experience in the trades areas of electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical theory and application, including troubleshooting complex electrical systems, interpreting schematics, and understanding load calculations and safety codes.
