Overview
Essential Job Duties This position serves as part of the life safety and building systems support team, responsible for ensuring the proper operation, maintenance, programming, and repair of Fire Detection and Suppression Systems across campus facilities. The role requires specialized expertise in fire alarm systems, sprinkler and suppression systems (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, and chemical), as well as related safety systems such as Security, CCTV, Card Access, and Central Alarm Receiving Stations.
The position ensures compliance with all applicable codes and standards, including NFPA, NC Department of Insurance, ADA, and Life Safety 101 requirements, to maintain a safe and code-compliant environment.

Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday; 8 am - 4:30 pm
- Experience in the installation, programming, maintenance, and repair of Fire Detection and Suppression Systems, including alarm and sprinkler systems.
- Experience interpreting and applying relevant codes and standards (NFPA, ADA, NC Department of Insurance, and Life Safety 101).
- Experience using diagnostic and programming tools, test equipment, and system software for troubleshooting electronic systems.
- NICET Level I Certification in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems
- Limited Fire Sprinkler Inspection Technician License issued by the NC State Board of Examiners
- Limited Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician License issued by the NC State Board of Examiners
- All licenses and certifications must be obtained within three (3) years of employment as a condition of continued employment.
- Same competencies as listed under Minimum Experience / Education, focusing on problem identification, troubleshooting, and documentation within life safety electronic systems.
- Responsible for ensuring proper operation, maintenance, programming, and repair of Fire Detection and Suppression Systems across campus facilities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, ADA, NC Department of Insurance, Life Safety 101).
- Coordinate with Life Safety/Electronic Shop Lead Technician to review and approve system changes prior to implementation.
