Anticipated Salary Range: $56,000 – $63,892

Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The NC State University Facilities Division is home to nearly 900 professionals who plan, build, and maintain the spaces that foster an environment where innovation, learning, and community thrive. We manage more than 16.7 million gross square feet of built space and oversee 4,733 acres of campus infrastructure through core departments such as Design & Construction, Business Operations, Campus Operations and Maintenance, and Campus Planning and Strategic Investment.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems and fixtures, including pipe cutting, threading, assembling, and valve installations.
- Perform electrical tasks up to 600V, including maintenance of panels, breakers, motors, and lighting systems.
- Troubleshoot and service HVAC control systems (temperature, humidity, pneumatic valves, and sensors).
- Diagnose and repair boilers, turbines, pumps, steam lines, pressure‑reducing stations, and insulation systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on refrigeration and A/C units according to manufacturer standards.
- Lead and mentor others in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control system repairs and maintenance.
- Utilize extension ladders and high lifts to safely access and perform repairs at various heights.
- Enter and operate effectively within confined spaces following all established safety protocols.
- Participate in a mandatory quarterly on‑call rotation program, requiring the carrying of a pager or equivalent communication device for one full week every ten to fourteen weeks.
- Designated essential personnel for the University; may be required to work during adverse weather conditions even if the University operates on an alternate schedule.
- Assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s). Experience in the trade(s) areas may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- Extensive experience in the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of systems across multiple trades, with a focus on HVAC, electrical, steam, and plumbing.
- Experience in the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls.
- Technical training in HVAC systems.
- Thorough knowledge of local, state, and national codes and regulations related to assigned trades.
- Possession of a current Universal CFC Certification.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
