Operating year-round, we manage more than 16.7 million gross square feet of built space and oversee 4,733 acres of campus infrastructure through a series of core departments:

Whether responding to a maintenance request, shaping future facilities, or creating spaces that inspire discovery, our team is grounded in excellence, service, and stewardship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems, fixtures, and piping
  • Performing journey-level electrical work (up to 600 VAC) including conduit wiring, switch gear, and panels
  • Diagnosing and fixing HVAC and temperature control systems
  • Maintaining boilers, pumps, fan turbines, and related mechanical systems
  • Servicing auxiliary equipment such as air compressors and water softeners
  • Collaborating with fellow technicians and other departments to ensure seamless operation of all building systems
  • Communicating effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understanding verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
  • Lifting up to 90 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations
Other Responsibilities
  • Participate in quarterly on‑call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time; available for overtime and alternate shifts as needed for emergencies.
  • Essential personnel: may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions and may assist with snow and ice removal as directed.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with mechanical systems
  • Experience in the repair, installation, and operation of complex mechanical systems within a commercial or university environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pneumatic controls and DDC type controls
Required License or Certification
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
