Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead a small crew in inspecting, maintaining, and repairing roofs, ensuring quality work across campus
  • Perform journeyman‑level tasks, including patching and replacing roofs using hot or cold methods, ensuring work meets required standards
  • Execute preventive maintenance and repairs for the campus’s building envelope, including all roofs and waterproofing above and below grade
  • Repair or replace roofing systems such as single‑ply, BUR, modified bitumen, metal, slate, and shingle roofing, using the appropriate tools and materials
  • Perform above and below‑grade waterproofing, including resealing windows, repairing control joints, and applying waterproofing membranes
  • Review plans, estimates, and on‑site conditions, making necessary adjustments to ensure project success
  • Develop and prioritize work assignments, coordinating tasks with co‑workers and other shops as needed
  • Communicate technical and safety information clearly to team members, ensuring proper assembly, demolition, and waste disposal practices, while establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with co‑workers, contractors, vendors, and university personnel to support successful project completion
Other Responsibilities
  • This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even if the University operates on an alternate schedule
  • This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor
  • This position will assist other trades whenever necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in maintenance and repair of commercial roofing systems and waterproofing foundations.
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate a small crew effectively.
  • Knowledge of building envelope systems and waterproofing techniques.
  • Strong communication skills with supervisors, crew members, and the public.
  • Experience in commercial roofing materials and installation methods.
Required License or Certification
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
