Job Duties

We're looking for a Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our Building Maintenance and Operations team-a group that values craftsmanship, collaboration, and service. In this role, you'll be a vital part of maintaining and enhancing the spaces where our students, faculty, and staff live, work, and learn.

You'll take charge of a wide variety of tasks within your designated maintenance zone-no two days are the same. From keeping HVAC systems humming to troubleshooting complex electrical and plumbing issues, your work will directly impact the comfort and safety of the campus community. This role goes beyond routine repairs-you'll be working with everything from boilers and air conditioning units to lighting, pumps, valves, and more.

Key Responsibilities Include:

* Installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems, fixtures, and piping

* Performing journey-level electrical work (up to 600 VAC) including conduit wiring, switch gear, and panels

* Diagnosing and fixing HVAC and temperature control systems

* Maintaining boilers, pumps, fan turbines, and related mechanical systems

* Servicing auxiliary equipment like air compressors and water softeners

* Collaborating with fellow technicians and other departments to ensure seamless operation of all building systems

* Communicating effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understanding verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters

* Lifting up to 90 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations

Other Responsibilities

* Must participate in quarterly on-call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time. This occurs every ten to fourteen weeks. Must be able to work overtime and/or alternate shifts when necessary for emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

* This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).

Optional Guidelines:
Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working with mechanical systems

* Experience in the repair, installation, and operation of complex mechanical systems within a commercial or university environment

* Demonstrate through work, a depth of knowledge and skills for pneumatic controls, as well as DDC type of controls

Required License or Certification
