About the Department

The NC State University Facilities Division is home to nearly 900 professionals who plan, build and maintain the spaces that foster an environment where innovation, learning, and community thrive. Through this work, we help create spaces that empower students, faculty, and staff to reach their full potential. Operating year-round, we manage more than 16.7 million gross square feet of built space and oversee 4,733 acres of campus infrastructure through a series of core departments, each composed of multiple specialized units:
Design & Construction, Business Operations, Campus Operations and Maintenance, and Campus Planning and Strategic Investment.

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled carpenter to join our Carpentry Shop and contribute to a wide range of renovation and installation projects across campus facilities. From drywall and cabinetry to flooring and ceiling systems, you’ll play a key role in enhancing and maintaining our built environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and finish drywall, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, and countertops with attention to detail and quality.
  • Perform trim work, hang doors, install hardware, and set windows to meet project specifications.
  • Modify and renovate spaces by removing walls, installing partitions, and reconfiguring layouts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to ensure accurate execution of construction plans.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools to complete structural enhancements and repairs.
  • Collaborate with project managers to resolve construction challenges and ensure timely completion.
  • Apply knowledge of at least one additional trade while maintaining a general understanding of others.
  • Work involves lifting and carrying up to 60 lbs frequently and up to 90 lbs occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in renovating building spaces in a university or institutional setting.
  • Proficiency in installing and finishing drywall, ceiling systems, flooring, cabinetry, and countertops.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry trade practices, materials, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in a facilities environment.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with supervisors, team members, and the public.
Required License or Certification
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire and maintain it.
Employment and Compensation

Salary range: $44,000 – $45,794. Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
