Responsibilities- Conduct inspections of windows, walls, doors, floors, ceilings, handrails, ADA features, and other structural components.
- Coordinate and schedule maintenance work, communicating with building liaisons, supervisors, utilities teams, department heads, and campus occupants.
- Manage daily operations within the Carpentry Shop, including flooring, wall, glass repair, cabinet and counter top work.
- Perform advanced‑level carpentry work: metal and wood stud wall systems, drywall installation and finishing, ceiling systems, flooring, cabinetry, and counter top installations.
- Complete detailed trim work; hang doors, drill and set door hardware, install partitions, set windows, and modify or remove walls using hand and power tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents to ensure work meets design specifications.
- Demonstrate knowledge of remodeling trades, safety standards, quality control, and cost management.
- Monitor AIM system reports to track labor and material costs; collaborate with management to address variances.
- Review project plans, prepare cost estimates, and order materials for carpentry and maintenance tasks.
- Specialize in water damage remediation and restoration to maintain structural safety and appearance.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of work spaces, vehicles, and tools; report accidents or policy infractions per university procedures.
- Safely use ladders and lift or move items weighing 50–90 pounds.
- Communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public.
- May be required to work during adverse weather or to assist with snow and ice removal.
- Assist other trades as needed.
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the assignment may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- Working knowledge of standard carpentry trade practices and methods.
- Experience in a university setting performing advanced carpentry including repair, installation, and fabrication of ceilings, floors, doors, frames, glass repair, furniture repair, and water damage remediation.
- Knowledge and experience in water damage remediation and restoration.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and oversee maintenance and construction tasks.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must obtain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License (NCDL) within 60 days of hire and maintain it.
