Essential Job Duties

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Field Ecology Technician to support ongoing ecological monitoring projects in Ashe, Avery, and Watauga Counties. This hands‑on field and lab support role is ideal for individuals interested in biology, ecology, entomology, or environmental science.

• Drive to field sites across Ashe, Avery, and Watauga Counties (mileage reimbursed).
• Collect and label armored‑scale infested foliage samples from designated locations.
• Perform microscopic insect counts using a provided microscope.
• Record data accurately and maintain sample integrity.
• Communicate findings and field conditions with the project lead in a timely manner.

• Ability to work independently and follow detailed protocols.
• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
• Strong attention to detail and data recording accuracy.
• Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and handle plant/insect materials.
• Coursework or background in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field is preferred but not required.
