QA/QC Lead Job Description
The QA/QC Lead is responsible for overseeing all quality assurance and quality control activities within a mechanical contractor's fabrication shop environment. This role ensures all welded assemblies meet company standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements. The QA/QC Lead will supervise and support a team of eight welders, providing inspection, documentation, technical guidance, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, highly technical professional with strong leadership capabilities and extensive experience in high‑purity mechanical fabrication.
ResponsibilitiesLead daily QA/QC operations within the fabrication shop to ensure all welded components meet internal and external quality standards.
Provide guidance and oversight to 8 welders, ensuring adherence to welding procedures, process parameters, and safety practices.
Interpret engineering drawings, piping isometrics, and specifications to verify compliance with project requirements.
Perform visual weld inspections, dimensional checks, and verification of weld parameters in accordance with CWI requirements.
Maintain and optimize weld traceability, inspection records, and testing documentation.
Review and approve weld logs, material certificates, non-conformance documents, and final turnover packages.
Conduct in‑process and final inspections using appropriate tools and QA/QC methodologies.
Ensure compliance with ASME Section IX, company SOPs, and customer‑specific quality standards.
Oversee welder qualifications and re‑certification processes.
Support development and continuous improvement of quality procedures, weld procedures, and inspection criteria.
Utilize QA/QC and production quality software platforms for documentation, reporting, and workflow management.
Train shop personnel on proper use of digital quality tools and ensure accurate, real‑time data entry.
Identify quality trends, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities within welding processes and fabrication workflows.
Lead root‑cause analysis and corrective actions to resolve quality issues.
Collaborate with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams to optimize quality outcomes.
Active Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential.
Minimum 5+ years of QA/QC experience within a welding or mechanical fabrication environment.
Strong understanding of ASME Section IX, welding metallurgy, orbital welding processes, and sanitary fabrication practices.
Experience using digital QA/QC systems such as ISNetworld, Procore, Bluebeam, Weld Trace, or comparable platforms.
Strong documentation, communication, and leadership skills.
Skills & Qualifications
Past experience in a fabrication shop supervisory or lead role.
Familiarity with GMP environments, pharmaceutical or high‑purity applications.
Understanding of automated weld inspection equipment and weld data logging.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Ability to coach and mentor welders.
Solid understanding of welding processes and standards compliance.
Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven fabrication environment.

JobType & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Raleigh, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
