The NC State Veterinary Hospital is an integrated health care center for companion, equine, and farm animals. We exist to further the teaching mission of the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine and to provide state-of-the-art patient care. EssentialJob Duties
Are you passionate about breaking down barriers to veterinary care? We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Veterinarian to lead our mobile outreach initiative. This role is designed for a clinician who thrives on variety, enjoys community engagement, and is committed to providing high-quality primary care to underserved populations. The Mission:
As part of our Community Access team, you will bring the clinic to the client. Operating out of a state-of-the-art mobile unit, you will travel to regional areas where veterinary services are limited, ensuring that every pet—regardless of geography—has access to essential medical care.
- Primary Care Delivery: Provide comprehensive wellness exams, vaccinations, and parasite prevention (anthelmintics and heartworm) for small animals, primarily dogs and cats.
- Clinical Management: Diagnose and treat patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic clinical illnesses.
- Advanced Diagnostics: Utilize on-site technology to guide medical decisions, including point-of-care bloodwork, ultrasonography, and digital radiography.
- Community Engagement: Act as a face of the organization in regional underserved areas, building trust with pet owners and providing education on preventative health.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a mobile environment and traveling to different regional locations.
- Clinical Proficiency: Strong skills in internal medicine, preventative care, and diagnostic interpretation.
- Compassion: A genuine desire to serve varied communities and improve the lives of pets and their people.
- DVM/VMD Degree: Must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the state of practice.
- Intermittent spay neuter is also anticipated based on the demand of the primary care practice areas and can be accomplished with the use of a mobile hospital owned and maintained by the Veterinary Hospital.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), or equivalent
Required Qualifications
- Strong skills in internal medicine, preventative care, and diagnostic interpretation
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- DVM, and at least 1-3 years of experience with a primary care or community care veterinary program
- Small animal primary care/ spectrum of care veterinary skills aligned with shelters and veterinary clinics in central North Carolina
