The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated veterinary academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states. The hospital staffs over twenty clinical services with board certified specialists that are nationally and even internationally renowned, ensuring the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine.

Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 30,000 patients are treated in the VH. Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Support & Patient Care
  • Provide primary technician support for all dentistry and oral surgery cases.
  • Assist veterinarians and students with examinations, stabilization, diagnostics, and treatments.
  • Perform expert animal handling and restraint.
  • Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery for surgical procedures.
  • Manage set-up and break-down for clinical procedures and teaching labs.
  • Service Administration & Logistics
  • Manage the service schedule and triage incoming referrals for appropriate scheduling.
  • Oversee inventory management
    , including supply purchasing and maintaining equipment repair schedules.
  • Ensure financial accuracy through diligent billing and monitoring of treatment sheets.
  • Act as the primary liaison between Dentistry and other hospital departments (Anesthesia, ICU, and support services) to coordinate surgeries and patient transitions.
  • Education & Compliance
  • Assist in the teaching and orientation of veterinary students and House Officers.
  • Ensure all resources are organized and available for laboratory sessions.
  • Maintain strict compliance with all Infectious Disease protocols to ensure hospital safety.
  • Provide professional, timely, and accurate communication via email and phone to clients and referring veterinarians.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Previous experience in a veterinary clinical setting is required; experience in Dentistry or Oral Surgery is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring, surgical assisting, and clinical administrative tasks.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple hospital departments.
  • Organization: Exceptional time‑management skills and the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of NC.
  • Experience providing advanced veterinary technician support in Dentistry, Oral Surgery, or a comparable surgical specialty, including anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
