Overview
Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center is seeking responsible and enthusiastic individuals for the Summer 2026 season. Join our team to create a positive impact and lasting memories in a fun-filled setting. The center is situated on 220 acres in Reidsville, NC, offering traditional, overnight, summer camp experiences to campers ages 8-17 and serving over 800 youth each summer.
Camp activities include: archery, arts & crafts, canoeing, challenge course, climbing wall, environmental education, goat husbandry, swimming, and more. As part of the team, you’ll help foster a safe, welcoming environment for campers to explore, make friends, and have fun. Candidates should possess patience, compassion, responsibility, active listening, and adaptability.

Notes:
Work Schedule – approximately May 29, 2026 – August 7, 2026. Most weeks begin around noon on Sunday and end around 2pm on Friday. Live on site Sunday–Friday in gendered cabin spaces. Minimum experience/education: 18 years or older; positive attitude, professionalism, compassion, and ability to follow directions.
Cabin Counselors (Starting Pay $300/week): Responsible for daily care and supervision of campers aged 8-12. Duties include group supervision 24/6, group management, fostering positive relationships, behavior management, and basic programming facilitation.
Adventure Program Counselors (Starting Pay $325/week): Facilitate outdoor living and adventure programming for campers aged 12-14. Duties include those of Cabin Counselors, plus overnight tent camping experiences, river tubing/rock climbing trips, and participation in Red Cross Lifeguard training, High Ropes, and outdoor climbing training (provided by camp).
Activity Counselors (Starting Pay $300/week): Instruct and manage activity areas (Arts & Crafts, Archery, Climbing Wall/Challenge Course, STEM). Responsibilities include instruction, safety, equipment management, setup/breakdown, and supervision during activities and overnights.
Lifeguards (Starting Pay $300/week): Run all aquatic programming. Work in small teams to ensure safety, prepare activity areas, lead instruction, and supervise campers. Must hold current lifeguard certification; training provided.
Aquatics Coordinator (Starting Pay $425/week): Manage lifeguard team and aquatics schedule; equipment checks; coordinate with leadership; lead trainings. Current lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain, plus at least 1 year of relevant experience.
Healthcare Staff (Starting Pay $425/week): Manage general health and wellbeing of campers and staff; organize medical forms, administer medications as needed, provide basic first aid, respond to emergencies, and be on-call during camp. Must be certified in First Aid/CPR/AED (training provided). Wilderness First Aid, EMT, CNA, or similar certifications are a plus.
Lead Staff – Various positions (Starting Pay $425/week): Administrative and camper/staff management duties; facilitate team dynamics; support setup/breakdown; professional communication; serve as role models.
