Urgent Vet bridges the gap between daytime general practice and emergency/overnight care, offering after-hours care for canine and feline patients without the additional expense of emergency clinic fees. Our hospitals offer care for common urgent cases, including wound management, ear infections, vomiting/diarrhea, and euthanasia. Each of our paperless clinics is specially designed to deliver efficient care and equipped with cloud-based EMR, digital x-ray, and a full suite of IDEXX in-house lab equipment.

Overview / OpportunityAre you looking for an opportunity to make an impact in your community while tackling a challenging, variety of tasks and the ability to help animals among a great team of people? Our clinic is seeking a Full-time Shift Lead to help provide outstanding patient care, team leadership, and client service in a fast-paced, state-of-the-art urgent care clinic.
Responsibilities- The primary purpose of the Shift Lead is to perform the duties of a Senior Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician (if applicable) and provide operational support across all shifts.
- Work to provide consistent leadership during each shift to support clients, coordinate paraprofessional staff, and steward hospital leadership goals by maximizing productivity and profitability.
- Direct, plan, coordinate, and perform duties concerned with animal health and client education to ensure consistent, efficient, quality care for patients.
- Partner with the Practice Manager and Lead DVM to ensure effective communication with clients, hospital team members, Field Leadership, and AVG/UV Support Center departments.
- Assign cases to veterinary assistants and ensure clarity of responsibilities, and identify and resolve bottlenecks in medical operations.
- Assist with client resolution decisions, invoice adjustments, and client experience exceptions.
- Train and mentor new paraprofessional staff.
- Address broken equipment issues and assist in inventory management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Regular on-site presence as an essential function of the role due to the nature of veterinary hospital operations, with in-person attendance necessary to support patient care, respond to time-sensitive needs, collaborate with clinical teams, and maintain safety and well-being of patients, clients, and staff.
- Two years of experience in healthcare, veterinary profession, or service-type industry required.
- Medical background with medical terminology training required.
- Associate degree or veterinary technician certification/licensure preferred.
- Six months of prior experience in a management position strongly preferred.
- Animal handling experience including patient restraint, sample collection, and monitoring.
- Clinical skills including phlebotomy, catheter placement, laboratory analysis, and drug calculation.
