The 8 HV Cardiac Procedural / Cardiac Medicine Intermediate Care Unit, located on the 8th floor of the Heart and Vascular Hospital, is a 24‑bed intermediate care unit serving adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac conditions and multiple co‑morbidity.
This unit is ideal for Nursing Assistants who enjoy a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment and value teamwork, advanced monitoring, and hands‑on patient care.
Unit Overview- Pre‑ and post‑cardiac and vascular interventions
- Myocardial infarctions and rule‑out heart attacks
- Heart failure
- Dysrhythmias requiring treatment or continuous monitoring
- Medical patients with significant cardiac histories and complex co‑morbidity
Each patient room is equipped with bedside cardiac monitors, computers, and scanners, supporting real‑time documentation and safe, high‑quality care delivery. Patient care is delivered through a team‑based, interdisciplinary model, with close collaboration among nurses, physicians, APPs, pharmacists, care managers, chaplains, patient care technicians, and unit secretaries. In addition, specialized telemetry technicians in the Telemetry Command Center provide continuous rhythm surveillance and real‑time support to the care team.
Key Responsibilities- Provide compassionate, patient‑centered care to adult and geriatric cardiac patients under the direction of licensed nursing staff
- Obtain and document vital signs, including cardiac‑related observations, and report changes in patient condition promptly
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, toileting, feeding, mobility, and positioning
- Support patient safety and comfort, including fall prevention and assistance with telemetry monitoring
- Assist with patient transport, procedures, and unit workflow as needed
- Collaborate with nurses and the interdisciplinary care team to support individualized plans of care
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, reinforcing care instructions as directed
- Accurately document assigned patient care activities in the electronic health record (EHR)
- A supportive, team‑oriented culture built on collaboration and respect

Provides routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital, clinic or home health care setting. All work performed is under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
