UNC REX Healthcare is seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical Nurse Team Leader to join the 7th Floor Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit located within the Heart and Vascular Hospital. This 24‑bed unit specializes in intermediate‑level care for adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac conditions, including heart failure, dysrhythmias, myocardial infarctions
, and pre‑/post‑cardiac and vascular procedures.

Unit Overview
  • Patient Population: Complex cardiac and vascular patients with multiple co‑morbidities

  • Common Cases: Heart failure, arrhythmias, MIs, cardiac procedures, and high‑risk medical patients with cardiac history

  • Nurse‑to‑Patient Ratio: 4:1

  • Technology: GE bedside monitors, dedicated room computers, 24/7 rhythm surveillance via Telemetry Command Center

Role Overview

As a Team Leader RN
, you will play a key dual role-providing advanced bedside care and supporting the professional development and operational effectiveness of the unit. This position is ideal for a highly skilled nurse looking to grow in leadership while maintaining a strong clinical presence.

Time Allocation:

Approximately 70% Clinical / 30% Administrative

Clinical Responsibilities (Approximately 70%)
  • Deliver high-quality direct patient care to a complex cardiac patient population.

  • Serve as Charge Nurse
    , leading daily operations, coordinating team assignments, and ensuring patient safety.

  • Precept and mentor new nurses, supporting their onboarding and clinical development.

  • Act as a clinical resource
    , modeling best practices and supporting critical thinking at the bedside.

  • Promote collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to support optimal patient outcomes.

  • Support real‑time decision‑making and care planning based on patient needs and unit acuity.

Administrative Responsibilities (Approximately 30%)
  • Participate in shared governance councils and hospital/unit‑based committees
    .

  • Support and/or lead performance improvement (PI) and quality improvement (QI) initiatives that enhance patient safety and outcomes.

  • Assist in coordinating and delivering unit‑based education
    , competency development, and ongoing training needs.

  • Conduct staff check‑ins
    , offering feedback, mentorship, and guidance to promote professional growth and engagement.

  • Perform patient experience rounding to ensure patient satisfaction and service excellence.

  • Collaborate with leadership on staffing, retention strategies
    , and culture‑building initiatives.
