Job Summary

As a Clinical Nurse (RN/Registered Nurse) with Duke University Health System, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a patient‑centered atmosphere. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities. Utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department, plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients guided by the DUHS Professional Practice model.

Participate in the clinical ladder program, educational activities, departmental committees, research projects or other health related projects as assigned. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Adhere to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Actively participate in outstanding customer service and accept responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Work Hours & Shifts
  • Full Time: 3 – 12 hour shifts
  • Orientation: Follows a structured approach, with three phases to allow new graduate RNs to build and achieve required Emergency Department skills.
  • Shifts: As a New Grad RN/Registered Nurse, you will have 12‑14 weeks of orientation. During orientation, you will work all different shifts before you are assigned your preferred shift (examples of what might be available: 7a‑7p; 11a‑11p; 1p‑1a; 7p‑7a).
  • Interviews: Virtual or onsite interviews will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026.
  • Start date: July 27, 2026 (Cohort).
Nurse Residency Program
  • All new graduate RN/Clinical Nurse I's will be enrolled in and must complete the DUHS Nurse Residency Program within 12 months of hire.
  • New graduate RN/Clinical Nurse I's are required to meet criteria set forth by the DUHS Nurse Residency Program within 18 months of hire to be promoted to CNII.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required
