Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Duke Raleigh Malignant Hematology (in‑patient) team. The ideal candidate has exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience. They will work with a multidisciplinary team providing direct patient care services. Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post‑treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high‑level clinical judgment including prescribing appropriate medications.
  • Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records.
  • Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
  • Communicate among multi‑disciplinary teams to support patient care.
  • Collaborate, support and build strong relationships with supervising, back‑up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
  • Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
  • See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
  • Attend program required meetings.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.
  • Consult on and/or visit inpatients on an as‑needed basis.
  • Enter chemotherapy orders for outpatients and inpatients and forward to supervising physician for review / signing.

Job Eligibility Requirements Education
  • Nurse Practitioners:
    Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants:
    Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree strongly preferred.
