General SummaryThe Ready Mix Concrete Driver operates a concrete mixer truck (manual or automatic transmission), mixes concrete, and delivers it to assigned job sites. Experience with similar heavy equipment is a plus. The driver must maintain a professional attitude, calculate water for desired slump, complete pre‑printed forms, and adhere to company policies. Normal workdays are Monday–Saturday, with hours varying by customer need, including overnight travel up to 10 % and shifts up to 16 hours.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Comply with all safety policies, procedures and established safe practices; report all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or the Manager Safety & Health.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area and meet housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22.
- Work safely while complying with all company policies and procedures.
- Safely operate a concrete mixer equipped with either a manual or automatic transmission to deliver concrete mix to job sites while following all traffic regulations.
- Ensure quality product via water addition—check ticket for specific instructions related to additional water. No water may be added exceeding those instructions.
- Upon arrival to the job, inspect slump; if below the specified amount, add enough water to obtain the specified slump. Record this water on the back of the delivery ticket, not on the front.
- For customer requests for additional water, obtain written authorization on the appropriate line on the back of the ticket and note approximate yardage left in the truck and number of gallons added.
- Total additional water on the back of the delivery ticket and list all water requested by the customer on the front.
- Maintain 50 gallons for post‑pour cleanup.
- Provide good customer service by effectively and professionally communicating with customers, Dispatch, and other RMC staff.
- Drive truck safely into loading position to receive mix components such as sand, crushed stone, cement, and water.
- Read delivery ticket to determine type of mix, additional products, directions to jobsite, and special instructions.
- Adjust slump as needed to deliver within specifications.
- Understand slump consistency and the effects of time and temperature.
- Demonstrate flexibility with work hours, perform overtime when needed in all weather conditions, and understand that truck assignments are based on business needs and availability.
- Assemble extension chutes when needed to reach the area where the concrete is to be placed.
Skills And Abilities
- A valid Class A or B CDL with a good driving record.
- Proof of or ability to obtain DOT medical card and job‑specific physicals.
- Obtain Job Ready Services physical required.
- Work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
