duties and responsibilities

the intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

• protects life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances
• patrols assigned areas
• responds to calls for police service
• conducts preliminary and follow-up criminal and traffic investigations
• conducts interviews
• prepares written reports and field notes of investigations and patrol activities
• apprehends criminals and testifies in court
• work requires extensive contact with outside agencies and the general public

typical qualifications

• high school diploma or ged equivalent
• united states citizen or naturalized citizen
• must be at least 21 years of age at the time of graduation from the raleigh police academy
• must have a valid driver's license
• vision corrected to 20/20 and cannot be colorblind

lateral-entry officers are eligible to earn a starting salary of up to $66,124.00.
