Job Duties
This position provides care and coordination for patients with the Radiation Oncology department of the Randall
B. Terry Jr. Companion Animal Medical Center. The Radiation Oncology service offers leading edge care for patients in need of diagnosis and treatment related to various types of cancer.
We are looking for a customer-focused team player with in-depth knowledge of veterinary medicine who thrives in a fast-paced, teaching environment and can work with a varied population. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate effectively, maintain composure in challenging situations, and provide high-quality customer service. You should be comfortable working independently and collaboratively, using good judgment for patient care, and contributing to team problem-solving.
This role requires proficiency with technology, the ability to work extended hours when needed, and the capacity to lift up to 50 pounds.
Direct patient care duties include but are not limited to:
- Primary point of contact for scheduling and delivering radiation therapy to patients
- Participates in client check in, patient admitting, updates, scheduling, and questions
- In depth knowledge of service specific patients through student and clinician communications regarding presenting problems, diagnostics, treatment options and overall projected plan of care
- Performs and supports various diagnostic testing and procedures including; anesthesia support and monitoring, CT imaging, LINAC radiation setup & delivery
- Operates and interprets all physiologic patient monitors including ECG, direct and indirect blood pressure, pulse oximeter, capnograph, gas analyzer, anesthesia machine, ventilator, temperature and various diagnostic testing
- Performs CPR and life saving support
- Provide direct patient care and medical treatments including TPR, BP monitoring, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sedative/treatment therapy injections
- Perform high risk drug calculations, including CRI, IV fluid, medical pain management and treatment therapies
- Provide continuous direct care and monitoring through extubation and transfer to appropriate hospitalization area
- Provide post-anesthesia and post-sedation recovery and care, including pain management, for an array of elective procedures
- Direct monitoring of radiation oncology patients, associated with, but not limited to the following diseases;
Lymphoma, Mammary Tumors, Oral Melanoma, Hemangiosarcoma, Mast Cell Tumor, Osteosarcoma - Proficient use of specialized patient care equipment
The position provides essential patient, departmental and hospital coordination of workflow, information and teaching with duties to include, but are not limited to:
- Position works directly with hospital personnel to facilitate communication and anticipate, integrate and coordinate services that optimize both internal and external satisfaction and overall patient care
