Medical Assistant I Certified – UNC Family Medicine, East Six Forks Rd

Job Summary
Provide routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting. Work under clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities and under the general direction of the manager/supervisor for non-clinical responsibilities.

Salary
$17.94–$25.25 per hour (Hiring Range), Full Time, 40 hours per week, onsite day job. Incentive: $7,500.

Responsibilities

• Perform rooming and intake, collecting vital signs and data related to patient’s reason for visit.
• Collect patient and family medical and social history.
• Review medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
• Assist provider during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
• Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
• Administer medications under provider direction.
• Perform tests such as EKG and eye examinations under provider direction.
• Determine need for routine health screenings.
• Ensure exam/procedure rooms have appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials.
• Provide patients with after‑visit instructions and educational materials.
• Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
• Clean and sterilize instruments.
• Assist with patient registration, check‑in/out, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
• Answer clinic telephone and assist in‑basket under provider or nurse direction.
• Assist in emergency situations per provider or nurse guidance.

Education Requirements

• No educational requirement, but completion of an accredited medical assisting program is strongly preferred.

Licensure / Certification Requirements

• Medical Assistant certification (AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA).
• Basic Life Support certification from AHA or ARC.

Professional Experience Requirements

• Preferred prior medical assistant or externship experience.

• Ability to perform essential functions of this position.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Positive engagement with patients and families; teamwork with staff and providers.
• Computer skills to document information in electronic medical record.
