Histotechnologist Senior – Rex Anatomic Pathology

Join UNC Health as a Histotechnologist Senior in Rex Anatomic Pathology, located in Raleigh, NC. This full‑time position requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about medical tissue testing.

Perform a variety of specialized medical tissue testing. The work involves preparation of tissue samples, enabling pathologists to determine the cause of death, degree of disease, and appropriate treatment. Serve as a technical resource, working closely with the supervisor for scheduling, workflow management, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Act as a backup to the supervisor as needed.

• Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
• Monitor daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
• Participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
• Perform non‑routine, more complex test procedures. Prepare tissue slides by processing, embedding, sectioning, examining, and staining tissues received from surgical pathology, autopsy, hematology, cytology, and research areas.
• Perform quality control and equipment maintenance.
• Provide leadership and guidance to co‑workers.
• Report results to healthcare providers. Consult/confer with healthcare providers regarding test results.
• Review test results to ensure accuracy of record and timely correction of errors.
• Act as Lead Technologist or Program Manager in areas such as quality control, education, competency, equipment, and safety.
• Train new employees and teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents. Serve as a technical resource.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Biological Science.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

• HTL(ASCP) certified by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC).
• HT(ASCP) certified by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) and 5 years of direct immunohistochemistry experience.
• EM certification from Electron Microscopy Society for Certification #1 and #2.

Professional Experience Requirements:

• If Bachelor degree plus completion of NAACLS accredited histology program, two (2) years of relevant laboratory experience.
• If Bachelor degree in biological or chemical science, three (3) years of relevant laboratory experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• EM certification from Electron Microscopy Society for Certification #1 and #2.
