Join the Duke University Health System as a Certified Medical Assistant in the Orthopaedics department. This nonexempt position involves clinical and administrative duties across clinic settings, assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
Job location: Duke Orthopaedics of Raleigh, 3480 Wake Forest Rd, Raleigh, NC
Job Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for performing a variety of duties depending on whether it is a small clinic, large medical practice, multi-clinic, or a specialty office. They may be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
Job Duties And Responsibilities- Room patients, collect histories, chart, answer phone calls, complete forms
- Prepping clinics, obtaining test results, updating charts, verifying insurance, obtaining authorizations, coordinating referrals and appointments
- Performing cleaning of exam rooms, ordering and stocking supplies, restocking exam rooms, cleaning exam tables, maintaining safe work environment by checking for expired supplies and medications, emptying sharps containers
- Promote patient rights, respond to emergency codes, follow HR, Compliance and Joint Commission policies
- Tasks varied by state law: autoclaving, checking vital signs, suture removal, dressing changes, entering orders based on physician protocols, managing biohazard waste, blood drawing, applying DME to a patient
- Other duties as assigned by manager or HCA
- Develop ability to remove casts, apply basic splints and cast to upper and lower extremity, accurately fit all DME products used in the clinic
- One year of orthopaedic experience preferred
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (CAAHEP or ABHES) strongly preferred
- High school or GED graduation required
- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required
- BLS required
- Level I – No experience required
- Level II – 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting
