About the Department
The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated veterinary academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina and many other states. The hospital staffs over twenty clinical services with board-certified specialists that are nationally and internationally renowned, ensuring the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists using a team approach to patient health care.
Each year, nearly 35,000 patients are treated in the VH. The VH provides compassionate care, state‑of‑the‑art specialty health care, and expert clinical instruction for 4th year veterinary students, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field.
- Maintain laboratory excellence through equipment quality control (QC).
- Implement new testing methods successfully.
- Ensure a safe, compliant operational environment via inventory management and preparation for safety inspections.
- Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or a Biological Science; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.
Preferred Qualifications- Clinical laboratory experience: establishing and maintaining SOPs compliant with state and federal regulations.
- Molecular assay development: proven ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and develop new clinical PCR assays, including primer/probe design.
- Specialized testing: direct experience with microbiology and/or molecular diagnostics techniques using strict aseptic technique.
- Quality & Compliance management: record of managing QC, routine equipment maintenance, and preparation for laboratory inspections.
- Team & Process Efficiency: demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, maintain excellent documentation, and work efficiently within a collaborative team structure.
