Overview
The Environment Health Safety and Preparedness Officer provides the leadership for the daily operational activities of the assigned Environment of Care, Life Safety Management, and/or Emergency Management Programs impacting the Wake Med enterprises and/or the entire system.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the provision of expertise for the development and maintenance of assigned policies and plans; the coordination and completion of assigned drills, exercises, and inspections; the management of performance improvement projects and initiatives; responding to Environment of Care and/or Emergency Management incidents, and/or conducting safety investigations, including the required follow-up actions. Manage regulatory/accreditation inspections, the assigned Strategic Performance Improvement Plans, event/incident action plans, and documentation as assigned and completed required quarterly and annual reports.
The Officer participates in the development and implementation of assigned Environment of Care / Life Safety / Emergency Management staff training. The Officer participates and/or leads assigned committees, task forces and/or work groups, serving as a resource for department management and staff. Other duties may be assigned as needed. The Environmental Health Safety and Preparedness Officer is expected to stay and/or return to work to fulfill assigned regulatory required tasks and during emergencies and/or events or incidents to perform duties specific to the assigned safety related roles and responsibilities.
This responsibility may require working a non-traditional work schedule and/or working outside normal assigned hours and duties to support the response and the Wake Med system's operations.

- State Medical Assistance Team
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Required - Within 1 Year of Hire
- Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Transportation Certification Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree Related Field Required
- Associate's Degree Related Field Required
- With Equivalent Experience
- 3 Years Healthcare Safety And/Or Emergency Management Required
- Training Emergency Vehicle Operations Preferred
