Position: Technical Accounting Manager/ Controller

Job Overview

A growth-oriented insurance organization is seeking a Technical Accounting Manager/ Controller to support the overall leadership of accounting operations and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all financial activities. This role oversees day-to-day accounting processes, supports strategic financial initiatives, and partners closely with executive leadership, auditors, actuaries, and internal teams. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, operational leadership ability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Skills

and Experience
  • 3-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including oversight of accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, Statutory accounting principles, NAIC reporting requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience managing general ledger processes, financial statement preparation, budgeting, and investment reporting.
  • Proficiency with financial software, process management, audit coordination, and performance management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA required. MBA is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, develop policies, and support strategic decision making.
Job Description
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance across all financial data.
  • Maintain and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Lead general ledger reconciliations and support timely preparation of monthly GAAP and Statutory financial statements.
  • Assist with NAIC quarterly and annual statement preparation and related regulatory reporting.
  • Support cash management and investment activities to optimize returns and manage risk.
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting through data analysis and financial consolidation.
  • Prepare required tax filings and ensure compliance with federal, state, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain asset and depreciation schedules and related documentation.
  • Coordinate with actuaries, auditors, and consultants to provide accurate financial information.
  • Assist with HR and payroll tasks and participate in cross training within the accounting team.
  • Support special projects, process improvements, and key initiatives within the finance function.
  • Serve as a primary support resource for the CFO and provide back-up coverage for essential accounting functions.
