Indirect Underwriting Supervisor

Location: Raleigh, NC. Hybrid Position, must live locally.

Job Summary

The Indirect Lending Underwriting Supervisor leads a high‑performing team responsible for all aspects of indirect auto loan underwriting. This role drives operational excellence, ensures regulatory compliance, manages risk, and fosters strong dealer relationships to support Coastal’s growth and member satisfaction.

Responsibilities

(60%) Operations & Leadership

  • Manage daily workflows for indirect underwriting ensuring efficiency and accuracy across all loan products.
  • Oversee the training and professional development of indirect underwriters, including the coordination and delivery of annual compliance training programs.
  • Analyze current business practices, identify areas for improvement, and lead initiatives to streamline workflows and enhance member experience through automation and technology upgrades.
  • Track and report key performance metrics to senior management (e.g., loan volume, loan errors, loan exceptions).

(15%) Compliance & Risk Management

  • Develop and enforce operational procedures that align with regulatory requirements and internal standards. Act as the primary contact for audits and examinations, addressing findings and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and proactively plan for compliance in collaboration with compliance teams.

(15%) Relationship Management

  • Collaborate with sales officers to drive market profitability through increased volume, operational efficiency, and effective dealer management.
  • Handle escalations of adverse credit decisions or loan issues and communicate with members and dealer partners, ensuring professionalism and maintaining strong rapport.

(10%) Market & Pricing Analysis

  • Monitor competitive programs to inform strategic adjustments.
  • Evaluate pricing trends and contribute to pricing recommendations aligned with profitability goals, collaborating with finance on recommendations.
Qualifications Experience
  • Five years of automotive underwriting experience.
  • Familiarity with CUDL, Dealer track, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with indirect lending preferred.
Education
  • Related bachelor’s degree or comparable experience.

Must be able to learn and retain information; resolve problems and think sequentially; remain in a stationary position; constantly operate a computer; and converse with others on a continual basis.
