Network Engineer, III; LAN​/Wireless​/Tier 3

PlanIT Group is seeking a Network Engineer, III (LAN/Wireless/Traveling) Tier 3 to support our Federal customer in the Washington, DC area. The ideal candidate will provide wired switch and network design, operation, and management in support of customer initiatives and projects. Must be available to travel 50% or greater.

• Start Date: 07/14/25
• Duration: One year plus annual extensions

• Serve as travel engineer, available to travel 50% or more.
• Design, implement, and manage LAN/Wireless infrastructure projects.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to Tier 2 LAN Engineers.
• Configure and support wireless systems, network architecture, and perform network performance monitoring.
• Develop and maintain network documentation and diagrams.
• Support network upgrades, security, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with other IT teams and support special projects involving multiple vendors.
• Perform root cause analysis during outages and develop change management procedures.

• Minimum of 5 years of LAN engineering experience.
• Expertise in LAN protocols, design, and management.
• Proficiency with network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, Solar Winds).
• Strong troubleshooting, security, and documentation skills.
• Excellent communication and ability to work independently.

• Experience with IP Address Management, Cisco networks, wireless solutions (Cisco Meraki, Aruba, Juniper, Fortinet).
• Knowledge of network security standards and methodologies.

• 8-12 years of relevant experience or degree plus related experience.
• Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• Resided in the U.S. for the past 5 years.
• No more than 6 months travel outside the U.S. in the past five years (military service excluded).
