Responsibilities

Engineering Consulting Services (ECS) is seeking an Environmental Project Manager to join our team. This role performs multiple tasks on a project as assigned by their supervisor, taking on increasing responsibility as the project and the individual grow. Work will be a mix of field and office. The ideal candidate presents a positive customer‑service attitude and an understanding of ECS Core Values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actively mentor junior staff and support overall development of the team
  • Attend project meetings and provide solutions to technical and administrative issues as necessary
  • Interface with clients on a daily basis and maintain and develop a client database
  • Base ability to manage project budgets; prepare change orders, invoices, and assist with collection efforts
  • Schedule, train, and oversee subordinate staff members
  • Prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines; consult with supervisor weekly on priorities
  • Manage environmental projects, including technical support, and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Prepare proposals and change orders
  • Prepare environmental reports, perform analysis, and provide recommendations for review by senior staff
  • Review deliverables prepared by subordinate staff prior to senior and principal review
  • Host or attend project discussions with clients, following up on reports to address questions
  • Direct project set‑up and implementation with junior staff, ensuring appropriately trained personnel are assigned
  • Understand sample collection, preparation, hold times, preservation, and laboratory submission regulations and guidelines
  • Know federal, state, and local environmental regulations and guidelines and their implications; advise clients while complying with regulations
  • Review daily reports from field staff; perform routine site visits to verify quality and progress; mentor junior staff; communicate project milestones and directional changes to client
  • Direct site activities and maintain continuous communication with subordinate field staff and senior managers; discuss site changes with the Project Principal
  • Independently prepare reports for senior manager review
  • Coordinate field work for drill crews, test pit crews, and rig access during groundwater and soil investigations; perform media sampling; ensure site restoration before demobilization; verify scope alignment
  • Develop site work plans under senior manager guidance, including sample/boring locations, equipment needs, safety requirements, and subcontractor logistics that meet client goals
  • Assist with remediation system installation, operation, and maintenance; communicate onsite conditions that affect scope, budget, or technology to the Project Principal
  • Manage underground storage tank assessments; ensure licensed individuals perform work and ECS safety protocols are followed
  • Support Assistant’s and Staff Project Managers/Consultants in their development and oversee technicians
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor and/or Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or another relevant engineering or science degree (e.g., Natural or Environmental Science, Geology)
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Good knowledge of environmental principles and applications
  • Good knowledge of permitting processes, environmental regulations, and environmental test methods
  • Ability to manage and develop new clients; actively seek client relationship opportunities
  • Experience independently managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds on occasion and walk on uneven ground across various terrains
