Performs field investigations to locate, designate, and verify underground utilities in support of roadway design and construction projects for the North Carolina Department of Transportation and related clients. Uses electromagnetic locating equipment, ground penetrating radar, and vacuum excavation to identify utility type, alignment, and depth in accordance with ASCE 38 quality levels (QL-D through QL-A). Collects measurements, coordinates with survey crews and utility owners, documents findings, and helps prevent utility conflicts, construction delays, and damage to critical infrastructure.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work extended hours when required
- Experience in utility locating, surveying, construction inspection, or civil engineering field work
- Knowledge of APWA utility color codes
- Familiarity with NCDOT standards and right-of-way procedures
- Experience operating GPR equipment
- Experience with GPS data collection
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
