Overview
Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice is seeking to hire an experienced Electrical Engineer in the listed office location. The Power Division focuses on the design and construction of power generation facilities, including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and energy storage. Projects also include other types of heavy industrial facilities, such as decarbonization, mining, and gas compression. The project diversity offers a wide range of design and project execution experiences on both multi-discipline and electrical-only projects.
Engineered systems include the electrical interconnect to the bulk power grid and all auxiliary electric power equipment in the facility, such as generators, transformers, switch gear, UPS, and related equipment.
- Lead electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Modify and review production drawings.
- Design electrical components for project needs and requirements as specified by project managers.
- Apply strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
- Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
- Efficiently utilize design software tools to perform engineering calculations and physical plant designs.
- Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
- Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations to support project execution.
- Act as a field engineer on construction sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program. May also have bachelor’s degree in electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. A master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.
- Minimum of 7 years electrical engineering experience. EPC project experience strongly preferred.
- Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE standards. Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading electrical discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- Ability to travel.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred.
