Overview
Zeis Textiles Extension for Economic Development, known familiarly as Zeis Textiles Extension or ZTE, provides training and certification in textiles and programs for improvement and innovation, and serves the textile industry’s prototyping and pilot production needs in its five laboratories – spun yarn, knitting, weaving, dyeing and finishing, and physical testing. Within ZTE, the Dame S. Hamby Physical Testing Laboratory offers testing and analytical services for determining physical properties of fibers, yarns, fabrics, garments and other textile products.

The Part-Time Temporary Physical Testing Research Specialist for Zeis Textiles Extension (ZTE) will operate within the Physical Testing Lab
, and will primarily be responsible for the setup and operation of textile testing equipment in accordance with customer requirements, under the direction of Dr. Andre West, the Director of ZTE. This position will support lab activities and projects.

Responsibilities- Work with the Director of ZTE to schedule projects and equipment usage
- Operate testing equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment within the Physical Testing Lab
- Perform maintenance and report repair needs on equipment
- Communicate with customers to gather information regarding needs and timelines for project requests
- Assist with academic course activities in the physical testing lab
- Assist with short-course activities in the physical testing lab
- Willingness to be further trained on testing methods and testing equipment

Work Schedule Approximately 20 hours per week, preferably distributed over 3 days
Minimum Qualifications- Experience in a formal or university testing lab
- Understanding of textile testing methods
- Understanding of testing equipment and its operation
- Basic understanding of fiber, yarn and fabric types
- Excellent communication skills to interact with the Director and ZTE team and with customers to gather information and report project status
- Understanding the use of Microsoft and Google Office software
- Bachelor’s in Textiles is preferred but not required

Anticipated Hiring Range $25,500 at 0.50 FTE (equivalent of $51,000 at 1.0 FTE)
