Overview
Senior Structural Engineer role is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team in Raleigh or Charlotte. The role supports the structural design of facilities across markets including water/wastewater, municipal, industrial, power, federal, healthcare, education and science. The candidate will coordinate with a multidisciplinary design team throughout the life cycle of projects, from planning through construction documents and construction administration.
The ideal candidate will have experience with environmental engineering structures (e.g., reinforced concrete tanks) and be self-motivated, collaborative, and able to deliver high-quality, technically sound structural designs.

Responsibilities- Lead structural design and detailing for building-related projects across various markets (Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Power, Federal, Healthcare, Education and Science).
- Coordinate and work with a multidiscipline design team throughout the project life cycle—from planning through construction documents and construction administration.
- Develop construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations; review shop drawings during construction.
- Apply knowledge of structural modeling and analysis tools to deliver accurate designs; interface with clients and project teams.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration, and initiative to deliver high-quality engineering results.
- Experience with environmental engineering structures including reinforced concrete tanks using appropriate design codes (ACI 350 or equivalents) is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design.
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the position location (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software.
- Experience in design calculations and layouts; ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood; understanding of gravity and lateral analysis.
- Experience with architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firms preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and active participation in HDR’s employee-owned culture.
