Job Description
WSP USA is seeking an Assistant Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering
. The position can be based out of the following offices:
New Orleans, LA;
Tampa, FL;
Houston, TX; and Raleigh, NC.
Provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects. Delivers work products at a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
- Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data matrices.
- Assist with development of project design requirements, incorporating marine‑practice engineering standards.
- Assist with identification of project site, design and construction related risks and provide input on mitigation activities.
- Write technical reports, generating complete and concise documentation of findings.
- Prepare presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
- Work with cross‑functional teams on federal, state, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
- Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes.
- Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Complete all assigned trainings.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- 0 to 1 years of experience.
- Prior engineering internship experiences.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking and prioritization.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, engineering software and tools.
- Experience with AutoCAD, SAP
2000 and similar tools. - Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 to 3 years of relevant post‑education experience in ports and marine structures.
- EIT Certification.
- Experience with Revit, MathCAD and other similar software.
- A member of and/or active participant in local professional practice organizations.
- Familiarity with marine and coastal engineering principles, practices and regulations.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
