The Challenge

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician III to join our Division Design Construction (DDC) Engineering team.

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct field surveys and mapping in our DDC office.
  • Perform surveying, data collection, and mapping for division-managed projects.
  • Conduct data management, integrating data into design files, property reconnaissance, and field ties, and computing property information for determining Right of Way impacts.
  • Perform route location surveys, design horizontal and vertical alignments, construction surveys, and development and analysis of 3D surface models.
  • What You Bring

  • Experience using surveying equipment, instruments, levels, data collectors and GPS.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Computer experience, including Microsoft Office, Micro Station, Geo Pak, drafting software, and corridor modeling.
  • Ability to respond to the public, local government agencies, Raleigh-based staff, and private engineering firms regarding the status and design of highway projects within the Division.
  • Experience performing highway construction stakeouts.
  • Working knowledge of field surveying procedures and proficiency with robotic instruments, data collection, and GPS.
  • Ability to budget time and coordinate schedules with others.
  • Fitness and agility to traverse steep and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
  • 3+ years of relevant technician experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
