National Substation Physical Design Sub-Business Class Leader

HDR Engineering is seeking a national Substation Physical Design Sub‑Business Class Leader who will report directly to Area Operations Leadership and provide strategic direction for protection and control design across the power delivery substation business class.

• Drive development and implementation of a quality program and a physical design training & career development program for the national business class.
• Lead quarterly training & meetings with EITs and junior engineers across the practice.
• Develop and maintain technical practices, standards and expectations; support business class marketing and commercial success.
• Build a network of technical experts / SMEs and collaborate with BCL to influence staffing and expertise levels.
• Support professional development, production tools, best practices, technical policies, papers, presentations and credentialing.
• Lead proposal technical reviews (Blue Team Reviews) and participate in root cause analysis and PARRs.
• Achieve a 70%-75% utilization goal by supporting projects.

• Active participant in internal and external technical working groups.
• Strong knowledge of various physical and outdoor design concepts, including but not limited to: constructability, bus span calculations, AC/DC sizing, raceway design, cable design, BOM development, grounding, lightning protection, substation lighting, equipment specification, and cross‑sectional arrangements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in substation design or related field.
• Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values.
• Professional or engineering registration and related technical experience.
• Experienced in developing and managing diverse teams.
• Cooperative with other business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers.
• Active participant in employee‑owned culture.
