The event kicks off on Wednesday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm

AECOM is seeking an Entry‑Level Transit/Rail Engineer to support our growing Transit and Rail practice in North Carolina. This role provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and planners on transit and rail projects, including freight rail, light rail, streetcar, commuter rail, bus rapid transit (BRT), and multimodal corridor improvements.
Spring/Summer 2026 is the scheduled start date.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Support planning, preliminary engineering, and detailed design for rail and transit infrastructure projects, including freight, commuter rail, light rail, streetcar, bus rapid transit (BRT), and transit facilities.
- Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, technical reports, and specifications under the supervision of senior engineers.
- Perform assignments requiring application of standard engineering procedures, methods, and criteria to complete design tasks.
- Preparing engineering‑related calculations, drawings, and visual aids to support project development.
- Assisting project managers and senior engineers with task production and coordination.
- Applying civil and transportation engineering principles and practices to assigned projects.
- Assisting with maintaining project documentation and files in accordance with project and quality requirements.
- Producing high‑quality plan sets that accurately and clearly communicate design intent.
- Working under the supervision of a project manager or senior‑level team member.
- Collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary project teams while gaining exposure to project delivery processes, schedules, and budgets.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Be organized and detail-oriented.
- Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software.
- Willingness to travel (if and when required).
- Master's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
- Familiarity in freight or transit rail clients.
- Previous work experience in rail is preferred.
- Relocation is not available for this position.
