Responsibilities- Maintaining liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization.
- Acting independently on technical matters pertaining to specialty field and assisting the Sales groups with new business development activities within areas of expertise.
- Developing as a leader of technical and professional staff, acting as mentor for lower‑level employees, planning, developing, coordinating, and directing several small to large important projects or a project of major scope and complexity.
- Working with 3 to 5 subordinate supervisors or team leaders, at least one at level V.
- Directing the work of typically 5 to 10 engineers and scientists.
- Evaluating progress and results, recommending major changes to achieve overall objectives.
- Conceiving, planning, and conducting research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity.
- Serving as the technical specialist in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for an assigned responsibility area such as subject matter, function, type of facility or equipment, or product.
- Keeping abreast of new methods and developments affecting CDM Smith and recommending changes to current programs or new programs warranted by such developments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer.
- 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- NC Professional Engineer with experience in solid waste/landfill design and permitting, and construction experience in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia for at least 5 years.
- Experience developing managerial and technical skills, supervision and mentoring of junior engineers, and construction management.
- Experience with Solid Waste programs and regulations in North Carolina.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- In‑depth knowledge of project goals, drivers, strategies, risks and opportunities.
- Ability to interact with varying levels of staff, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Good interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with team members and clients.
- Ability to manage many people and process a large volume of requests.
- Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Civil 3D, and CADD.
- Organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
