Sr. Principal Engineer

Job Summary

A Sr. Principal Engineer is needed for an American multinational healthcare company that primarily focuses on products to treat kidney disease, and other chronic and acute medical conditions, in the Raleigh, NC area. This Senior Principal role requires an engineering degree and 10+ years of experience to lead the technical development, risk management, and requirements decomposition of complex, regulated SaMD ecosystems and connected infusion pump platforms using Agile methodologies.

This is a 12 months contract.

Work Hours:

8am to 5pm

• Lead the development and maintenance of connected infusion pump platforms and digital healthcare applications.
• Implement software development best practices and product lifecycle management across cross‑functional teams.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and feedback to junior and mid‑level engineers.
• Engineer solutions for complex software problems under demanding timelines.
• Collaborate with clinical and commercial stakeholders to translate user needs into formal system requirements.
• Decompose high‑level system requirements into detailed software subsystem specifications.
• Manage end‑to‑end risk analysis for Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), from hazard identification to mitigation.
• Design verification and validation strategies using requirement traceability methods.
• Conduct software design reviews for product features and system components.
• Execute Agile ceremonies, including product backlog grooming and feature definition.
• Facilitate design transfer by interfacing with manufacturing, service, and training departments.
• Maintain strict adherence to regulatory standards and quality management systems.

• Subject matter expertise in requirements management and risk management for complex, medically regulated, connected/interoperable system of systems.
• Experience with Digital Applications (SaMD, MDDS) connected to regulated electro‑mechanical devices in a clinical environment preferred.
• Experience with development in an agile environment with experience creating and maintaining product backlogs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience in a regulated industry preferred.
• Excellent documentation skills.

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of experience.
