Our client is a North American firm that has developed virtual flow-sensing maintenance and monitoring tools for the water industry. Their mission is to empower water and wastewater utilities for a smart tomorrow. The company’s products help to avoid critical issues and assist in operating and maintaining the infrastructure.
They are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer with experience in PLC programming and a strong background in electrical systems. This role is essential in designing, developing, and maintaining control systems that enhance automation and improve efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a hands‑on approach and be comfortable working with cross‑functional teams in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities- Developing, programming, and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Remote Telemetry Units (RTUs).
- Designing and implementing electrical control systems, including hardware schematics and panel layouts, to successfully integrate with the company’s software.
- Configuring and integrating the company’s systems with 3rd party SCADA applications such as VTSCADA, Wonderware, etc.
- Collaborating with development engineers, support teams, and project managers to ensure successful proposal or bid creation.
- Conducting system testing, validation, and debugging to ensure functionality and performance. (remote or on‑site)
- Optimizing and maintaining existing control systems to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Creating and maintaining detailed technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, control schematics, and operating procedures.
- Ensuring all systems comply with relevant safety and industry standards.
- Providing technical support and training to internal teams and operators as needed.
- Travel is expected to perform project startups, troubleshooting, or site visits. (30%).
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in controls engineering, particularly in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, or similar systems).
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, including circuits, wiring, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Human‑Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
The salary for this position is $80K – 110K or commensurate with experience, plus bonus, and full benefits.
