Research Scientist – Power Systems Optimization
Join Hitachi Energy as a Research Scientist in Power Systems Control and Optimization. You will work on cutting‑edge research that drives the transformation of the power grid, ensuring energy is reliable, sustainable, and accessible.
The OpportunityBased in our Raleigh, NC research center, you’ll collaborate with global experts to solve real‑world challenges in grid integration, renewable energy, and system resilience. This role goes beyond research – you’ll influence the next generation of energy systems, tackling complex optimization problems, modeling dynamic power networks, and contributing to AC/DC grid evolution, distributed energy resources, and market‑based operations.
How You’ll Make An Impact- Propose, contribute to and lead R&D projects in power and energy systems
- Collaborate with a global team to identify and solve real‑world challenges for our customers
- Develop novel ideas and concepts for the next generation of power systems
- Network within the company and actively disseminate your knowledge and expertise
- Collaborate with external partners, including universities, startups, and vendors
- Publish scientific papers, file patent applications, and produce technical reports
- Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Operations Research with a power‑system focus
- Knowledge of power‑system operation principles and issues
- Experience modeling AC and DC grids, including DER/I integration
- Understanding of market‑based system operation
- Expertise in constrained optimization: LP, MIP, NLP, NLMIP
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB
- Work authorization that permits employment in the United States
