Principal Systems Engineer at ARA
We are seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to join our team at Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA). Position OverviewThe successful candidate will lead the development of digital engineering simulation tools and technologies, applying modern software engineering practices to improve systems engineering processes for real warfighter problems. You will collaborate cross‑functionally, contribute to research and development, and have the autonomy to drive your technical career while supporting R&D efforts and operational programs.
Position Requirements- US Citizenship required.
- BS, MS, or PhD in engineering, computer science, operations research, applied mathematics, or a closely related field.
- 12+ years of relevant work experience (10+ years with a MS).
- Proficiency with at least one modern software development ecosystem (e.g., Python, C++, Java) and experience delivering quick‑turnaround proof‑of‑concept solutions.
- Familiarity with SysML, MBSE, AFSIM, or STORM.
- Team player with excellent communication skills.
- Strong coding skills in a high‑level language.
- Experience with backend web frameworks and RESTful API development.
- Experience with commercial MBSE, CAD, or PLM software and plugin development.
- Broad understanding of warfare models (engagement, mission analysis, and campaign analysis).
- Analytical support experience with the US Navy.
- Knowledge of cloud technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS).
- Existing DoD security clearance.
