Overview

The Division of Academic & Student Affairs ( DASA ) is where students discover connections and community. It is where students live, where they gather, where they improve themselves, each other, and their university. DASA is where students seek guidance and support, both in and outside of the classroom. The division serves all students at NC State through three integrated components: academic affairs, student affairs, and University College.

Position Purpose

This full-time internship is intended to provide hands-on experience and prepare individuals to perform at a high level in full-time positions in academic support for student-athletes following the internship.

Please note:

Campus Parking pass cost $33-$40/month

Responsibilities
  • Meet with a caseload of under-prepared students to develop academic skills, time management skills, learning techniques, and content acquisition.
  • Monitor academic progress and maintain communication with academic coordinators and supervisors.
  • Collaborate with a team of learning specialists to support academically under-prepared student-athletes in one-on-one and group sessions.
  • Develop and deliver professional development workshops for support staff, including academic mentors, writing assistants, and tutors
  • Assist with screening, assessment, and the development of academic support plans in collaboration with ASPSA’s associate director and academic coordinators
  • Facilitate at least one small group session to support students in a historically challenging course
  • Co-lead a group of academically underprepared student-athletes participating in Summer Start in the development of academic skills necessary to transition to the college classroom
  • Support students with educationally impacting disabilities in registering and accessing academic accommodations
  • Co-teach University Studies Courses ( USC ), which are designed to support first-year student-athletes in their transition from high school through the first year of college studies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the associate director/learning specialist

  • Bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or must have completed all requirements for master’s degree with the exception of internship completion
  • Experience supervising young adults in an educational setting.
