Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of adjunct faculty to teach English for Non-Native Speakers courses. Instructors provide practical, learner-centered English instruction that helps adult learners improve communication skills for work, school, and everyday life.
Openings for these positions may not exist at the present time; however, upon review of your qualifications, you may be contacted directly by the department on an as-needed basis. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. - Creates classroom materials that support the goals of the course
- Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
- Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
- Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
- Remains up to date on technology and methods of teaching with technology
- Maintains accurate records of student attendance
- Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
- Grades and returns work in a timely manner
- Counsels students regarding their progress in the course
- Submits end-of-course documentation by specified deadlines
- Supports the Department, Division, and College goals and adheres to all College policies and procedures
- Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction (syllabus) that reflect the appropriate learning objectives
- Checks email regularly and responds in a timely manner
- Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods and techniques to promote learning
- Demonstrates the ability to work respectfully and effectively with people from diverse cultures, identities, and backgrounds
- Able to maintain records accurately and meet deadlines consistently
- Able to perform duties with minimal supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their goals
- Demonstrates knowledge of instructional technology and the ability to use digital tools to support teaching and learning
Paid, professional experience teaching English to non-native speakers or completion of a supervised practice teaching course
Preferences- Professional training for teaching English to speakers of other languages such as an ESL teaching certificate from an accredited institution or a post-secondary degree in a related field
- Paid, professional experience teaching adult English language learners
