Open Rank – Teaching Assistant/Associate/Professor

Position:
Full-time, nine-month appointment at open‑rank levels (Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor) in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University.

Location:

Raleigh, NC. Work schedule Monday–Friday. 9 month recurring, non‑tenure track, permanent position with full university benefits.

Overview

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is the largest in the state and among the largest nationwide. MAE offers BS, MS, and PhD programs in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, including accelerated BS/MS tracks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate courses in core areas such as Engineering mechanics, Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics, Heat transfer, Mechanical design and manufacturing, Systems dynamics and controls.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop, revise, and improve course content, instructional materials, and laboratory experiences.
  • Provide academic advising, mentorship, and career guidance to students to promote success and retention.
  • Incorporate active learning strategies and technology‑enhanced instruction; participate in departmental and university‑wide teaching initiatives.
  • Contribute to departmental service, including committee participation, outreach, and recruitment efforts; collaborate across the department and college.
  • Maintain professional development in engineering education and participate in pedagogical research.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, completed before start date.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
