The Lampe Joint Department is a collaborative partnership between UNC‑CH and NC State, offering shared undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs with a single administrative structure and chairperson. The department is nationally ranked, with over 600 students, 54 faculty members (including five endowed chairs), and more than $25 million in research expenditures. It is consistently ranked among the top 15 globally and top 10 domestically in BME.

Job Duties
The appointment to the Lampe Distinguished Professorship will be at the tenured, full professor level. The successful candidate is expected to possess an internationally recognized research program, a demonstrated ability to attract external funding, and a strong teaching record for undergraduate and graduate BME courses. The candidate will spearhead multidisciplinary, multi‑department, and multi‑university initiatives focused on key research challenges in biomedical engineering, including biomedical imaging, microdevices, pharmacoengineering, regenerative medicine, and rehabilitation engineering.
Minimum Education and Experience- Ph.D., M.D.
-Ph.D., or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering or related discipline - Strong research program and excellent teaching record
- Commitment to BME education, outreach, and research
Required Qualifications
- Scholarly accomplishments and recognition in biomedical engineering or an integrated engineering‑medicine background
- Entrepreneurial, ambitious mindset spanning research and education
