Instructor, Dog Grooming; Part-Time, Temporary

Overview

The instructor is responsible for teaching entry-level animal care, handling, and grooming skills through a combination of lecture and hands-on lab instruction. The role includes guiding students in learning basic grooming techniques and services, animal anatomy, first aid, and basic animal behavior. The instructor ensures a safe, supportive learning environment and delivers high-quality instruction that aligns with industry standards and best practices.

• Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
• Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
• Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
• Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
• Graves and returns student work in a timely manner
• Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
• Communicates with students and staff in a timely manner
• Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction
• Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
• Remains up to date on technology and methods of teaching with technology
• Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom
• Attends professional development opportunities when possible

• Ability to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
• Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others
• Ability to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently
• Maintain a safe, collaborative and respectful working environment
• Strong organizational skills
• Knowledge and familiarity with technology and software including computers, and web-based resources such as Blackboard
• Ability to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
• Passion for dog grooming and strong desire to share knowledge
• Knowledge of industry-recognized standards for safety protocol, dog breeds, and standard cuts
• Proficiency with a wide variety of grooming tools and equipment

• Available to work evenings between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m
• Minimum of two years experience as a paid, professional dog groomer
• Exemplary safety record
• Portfolio demonstrating work completed
• Ownership of professional grooming equipment and tools
• Ownership of/access to a dog grooming facility
• Ownership of/access to dogs that can be used for demonstration and hands-on practice

• Teaching experience
• Three - five years of industry experience
• Industry-recognized professional grooming credential
• Evidence of ongoing professional development/continuing education
