The Upward Bound Program is an early intervention pre‑college program that helps students prepare for higher education. It brings high school students to college campuses after school, on weekends, and during the summer to receive instruction in mathematics, laboratory sciences, composition, literature, and foreign languages. Additional components include tutoring, counseling, mentoring, cultural enrichment, and work‑study programs. The program serves five high schools:
Vance County HS, Louisburg HS, Bunn HS, Franklinton HS, and East Wake HS. Since 1978, the program has assisted hundreds of students to enroll in college and gain a college degree.
Instructors will be responsible for:
- Developing and executing lesson plans in assigned curriculum courses:
- High School English
- High School Science, including physical science and chemistry
- Computer Science, especially AI
- Providing written evaluations for each program participant
Work Schedule:
Typically two Saturdays per month, 9 am–3 pm.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related subject
- Teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- NC Teaching license in the subject area (preferred)
- At least two years of teaching experience
Anticipated Hiring Range: $25–$40 per hour (based on teaching experience and education/certification).
