The North Carolina State University Design Lab for K-12 Education and Outreach is hiring four (4) Lead Staff for Design Camp 2026. Design Camp is a pre‑college program series hosted at the College of Design and includes Middle School Day Camp, High School Explorations Day Camp, Design Fundamentals Day Camp, High School Explorations Residential Camp, Design Immersions Residential Program, and Design Connections Residential Experience.

UTS – Design Camp Lead Staff 2026
- Attend training sessions, information sessions, staff meetings, and complete administrative projects from February to May 2026.
- Plan and lead the Design Camp Counselor Training Retreats (May, June).
- Prepare materials for campers and plan Design Camp activities, including evening programs.
- Support campers, counselors, and staff during all Design Camp sessions, ensuring safety and a positive experience.
- Coordinate overnight stays during residential programs and manage the end-of-camp cleanup and inventory.
- Assist with recruitment, assessment, and interview of counselors and teaching assistants.
- Maintain and manage supplies, organization, and inventory for Design Camp.
- Plan and execute space setup in Leazar Hall for camp activities.
The Lead Staff work period is divided into two phases: Preparation Phase (February–May 2026) and Camp Season (June–August 2026). During the Preparation Phase, weekly hours range from 5 to 15 per week and may increase as the camp season approaches. During Camp Season, full engagement is required for the camp sessions listed under Design Camp Sessions and for specific prep days during Program Weeks 1–4.

- 1+ summer(s) working with youth in a summer camp environment (at least one session of working at Design Camp required; day and residential camp experience preferred).
- NC State College of Design student or alumni.
- Leadership experience, excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, strong work ethic, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high levels of responsibility.
- Valid driver’s license with access to own vehicle.
- Physical ability to lift and carry 25–75 lbs. (with or without reasonable accommodation). Ability to crouch, stand, walk, climb stairs, and general physical strength and mobility are required.

Recruitment and CompensationAnticipated Hiring Range:
